When people are looking at or are wanting to buy a reborn doll, one of the thing that they look for and that makes the doll stand out from the rest is the attention to detail.
When done right, the results can be breathtaking - it's a well known fact that reborns have been mistaken for real babies on more than one occassion, though of course these were not just any old reborn - they would probably have been amongst the best that money can buy.
Of course, it's all very well having a baby doll with hand rooted mohair and that the artist has mottled and given likelife veins to but if the limb proportions are not in line something will look odd. Since a reborn doll is a complete package people will not simply be looking at the painting or other skills that have been used to make it. Imagine the result if you were to attach standard doll limbs onto a huge cloth body, or the head of a doll onto the limbs of another that are far too big for it.
Although this is only an example, and an extreme one at that, I am trying to highlight that it is very easy to ruin all of your hard work if you are not careful of what you are actually putting together. YAs silly as this might sound, you would be surprised at the number of people that make this mistake especially those that are new to reborning. It's an easy trap to fall into since a lot of attention is given to the harder parts of making a reborn doll, such as microrooting hair and painting. It is well worth thinking about the sizes before you start though and making sure that you have the correct size body to match the doll that you are planning to reborn as well as suitable eyes that will fit too.
This doesn't mean that every baby that is born has the exact same dimensions. Let's be honest, like children and adults, they come in all different shapes and sizes and to suggest otherwise would be plain silly. After all, it would be boring if we were all the same. However, there are general guidelines you can use to make sure that you are making anatomically correct reborn dolls. There are certain proportions that a babies body is in and as long as you dont go to the extremes, your reborn doll will look perfectly real.
