But what are they?

Sometimes called 'living dolls', 'unliving dolls', and 'reborn babies', these are the creations of people that spend hours turning a standard manufactured doll into a much more lifelike looking baby. In order for the artists to do this, a doll is taken apart (a doll kit is often used), the eyes and other features are removed, and it is then put back together again, filled to make it heavier, new eyes fitted, painted and the hair is individually rooted onto the head (this technique is called microrooting).
